This year, the school took place virtually from 22 to 27 August 2021. ICSSS was organized by The Hague Security Delta (HSD), the NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCI Agency), Europol, Leiden University and many other supporting partners.
"The summer school gives practical and pragmatic insights and direction to the next generation of cyber defenders, from leaders of the current generation. Now in its sixth year, alumni from the summer schools have found cyber security roles across NATO, in Nations and in industry. The summer school was initiated with NATO's Cyber Security Centre to extend the reach and impact of our cyber security training beyond the highly specialised courses provided by the NCI Academy," said Michael Street, Head, Innovation and Data Science, Chief Technology Office, NCI Agency.
This annual summer school provides attendees the opportunity to get a real feel for what a career in cyber security is like.
The students faced many individual and group challenges throughout the week and presented their work at the end of the week. Nineteen of this year's students chose the challenge provided by the NCI Agency, which looked into the application of artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms for battlefield cyber applications.
