NCI Agency to contract deployable communications system

On 2 June 2021, the NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCI Agency) released a Request for Quotation (RFQ) to provide a deployable communications system for the Portuguese Army.

This project will provide a Tactical Deployable Communications and Information System (TDCIS) to the Portuguese Army. The project has an estimated value of up to 35.3 million EUR.

"This project will strengthen the NATO Alliance by modernizing the Portuguese Army's deployable communications, enabling them to better communicate with their NATO Allies during missions and exercises," said Andrew Fleming, Project Manager, NCI Agency.

The RFQ release to industry marks the next stage in the project's delivery. The TDCIS will provide deployable voice and data services in the form of vehicle-mounted CIS equipment. This communications equipment will be deployed in support of future Portuguese (National), Multinational and NATO operations.

This project will benefit from NCI Agency's expertise in implementing the Federated Mission Networking (FMN) initiative. FMN compliancy will ensure mission networks can be spun up rapidly to allow the Portuguese National Army to effectively communicate with other partners on missions, operations and exercises.

The NCI Agency plans to award a contract by the fourth quarter of 2021, and roll out the initial capability by the fourth quarter of 2023.
