NCI Agency General Manager visits key partners in the United States

From 6 to 9 June 2023, the NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCI Agency) General Manager Ludwig Decamps, accompanied by the Agency's Chief Operating Officer Wiebe Nauta, embarked on his first visit to the United States since his appointment in 2021.

The trip included visits to the headquarters of Allied Command Transformation (ACT), the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), the National and Geospatial Intelligence Agency (NGA) and the Department of Defense (DoD) Chief Information Office (CIO).

At HQ SACT, Decamps met with Supreme Allied Commander Transformation General Philippe Lavigne and ACT leadership to reinforce and foster collaboration. They discussed matters related digital transformation, interoperability and strategic partnerships. The General Manager and Chief Operating Officer also visited the ACT Innovation Hub, Joint Force Command Norfolk (JFCNF) and the Agency's CIS Support Unit in Norfolk, discussing opportunities to further our collaboration to deliver capabilities and services captured in the NATO 2030 Agenda.

The visit coincided with ACT's 20th anniversary. The event marked two decades of significant contributions to NATO's transformation efforts, providing an opportune moment to reflect on the Strategic Command's achievements and key milestones.

Further to his participation in the anniversary celebrations, Decamps and Nauta visited several US government entities, highlighting the importance of transatlantic cooperation and strengthening partnerships in areas of mutual interest.

At DISA, they met with Deputy Director Christopher M. Barnhurst, and had a fruitful discussion on digital transformation and best practices in cyberspace information sharing. The DISA NATO Field Office has a strong relationship with the Agency dating back to the 1970s, with both entities leveraging technical information exchange and collaborative communications resources.

Decamps and Nauta also had the opportunity to visit the NGA facilities. This US entity works closely with NATO to provide geospatial intelligence support to the Alliance's military operations and missions. During his meeting, the General Manager and COO discussed opportunities for further cooperation and synergies in the areas of data exchange and space.

A meeting with the US DoD CIO, the Honorable John Sherman, and DOD CIO leadership, marked the conclusion of their trasatlantic tour. The gathering emphasised the need for joint efforts in countering cyber threats and facilitated an exchange on cloud technology, zero trust architecture and military applications of 5G.

By promoting collaboration with the US, these visits enhanced existing relationships, but also pave the way for future joint initiatives, ensuring the Agency's mission to support NATO's digital operational readiness and effectiveness.
