NCI Agency awards contract to strengthen network capacity and performance

The NCI Agency awarded in July a contract to BT Global Services Belgium bv valued at 1.5 million EUR to significantly strengthen the performance of NATO's communications networks.

Transport Core Services will serve the connectivity requirements of the NATO enterprise, interconnecting the three core data centres or "nodes" of NATO's communications over high capacity Ethernet links. By the third quarter of 2022, the Agency Transport Core Services Project team and its industry partners will increase network capacity up to ten-fold, and increase the service's availability.

"NATO's user communities must have seamless access to applications and services through our centralized data centres at all times. The Transport Core Services contract is expected to limit network downtime, in addition to improving the network traffic performance overall," said Pablo Moreno, Principal Project Manager at the NCI Agency.

The contract will deliver five years of services, with three optional years available. The length of the agreement allowed NATO to secure the best value for the services.

This contract will be followed by the Transport Edge Services (TES) project, which will provide high capacity Ethernet links connecting all NATO Command Structure Headquarters, the Nations and the NATO Agencies to the three core nodes serviced by the Transport Core Services contract. This business opportunity for industry will be released in the future once the requirement is confirmed.
