NCI Agency attends NATO cloud-computing exercise

On 21 February 2024, leaders of the NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCI Agency) attended the NATO Enterprise Cloud Exercise (CLOUDEX) at NATO Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium.

The exercise was conducted by the NCI Agency, the Office of the NATO Chief of Information Officer (OCIO) and Allied Command Transformation (ACT), in order to finalize core components of the NATO Enterprise Cloud Operating Model (NECOM). Across the Alliance, there are several lines of effort in support of the implementation of cloud technologies to support NATO's digital transformation.

The one-day event included an industry view on cloud operating models, an introduction and review of the NECOM and an information and awareness session for leadership across the Alliance. This exercise aims to inform NATO stakeholders on industry best practices regarding Cloud Operating Models and to align on NECOM to enable NATO's digital transformation.

As well as attending the leadership engagement, NCI Agency representatives attended sessions about cloud operating models, cloud security, business network capabilities and migration to the cloud.

"This exercise is fundamental to apply and formalize NECOM, in order to take a coherent approach to cloud implementations, especially in the context of key ongoing initiatives," explained Stefaan Vermassen, Senior Service Engineer from the NCI Agency CTO Cloud Centre of Excellence.
