First North Macedonian students complete course at NATO Communications and Information Academy

Two students from NATO's newest Allied Nation just completed a course at the NATO Communications and Information (NCI) Academy in Oeiras, Portugal.

SFC Jordanov Novica and SFC Nikolovski Ruse, both of the General staff of the North Macedonia Army, completed a course on administration of NATO cryptography. This is the first time students from North Macedonia participated in a course offered by the Academy.

This specific course prepares students to assume the role of crypto accountant, handling NATO material in accordance with the NATO regulations and directives. The course has been taught to cyber security students since 2017 in its current format.

"I felt warmly welcomed by the Academy staff and the course instructor," Novica said.

Training is vital to developing the North Macedonian force's ability to work together with forces from other Allies in joint planning, training and military exercises. For this reason, the two students also attended a follow on NATO Crypto Custodian course.

"Although this was a new experience to us, the quality of the instruction meant that it wasn't difficult to follow and easy to understand as we share the same principles," Ruse said.

North Macedonia joined the Alliance in March 2020.
